Immediate Action Needed
Planned Parenthood has placed an ad in the Arizona Republic urging people to call the state legislators to oppose three abortion bills.
Summary of the bills:
- SB-1238 Parental Consent - requires the consent of one parent for a minor to obtain an abortion or a court order authorizing the abortion.
- HB-2308 Informed Consent - requires that a woman considering an abortion receive information about the procedure's medical and psychological risks, the baby's development and alternatives to abortion.
- HB-2708 - "Jackie Doe" - named for the 14-year-old girl sent out of state for a late-term abortion last year, requires a dependent child (also referred to as a ward of the state) be given information about adoption and parenting before having an abortion. HB-2708 also protects any public employee who objects to an abortion on a moral or religious grounds from being forced to participate in an abortion.
The Center for Arizona Policy reports "that Planned Parenthood has launched a very misleading $30,000 media campaign against these measures."
Action requested:
- Please call your state representatives supporting these bills.
- E-mail anyone on your personal lists to encourage them to call.
- Phone friends and family, asking them to not only call themselves but to ask that these people call others they know.
- Write e-mail letters asap to the Arizona Republic and other papers expressing your support of the bills.
