IN CHINA

This world is tolerating and even at times encourages abortion. This world tolerates the research done on preborn infants. Facts that I never wanted to place before you have been going on in this world, in the name of medical research.

Just one example was reported in Life Advocate, Feb. 1995 in an article by Denise Billings, titled Federal Cannibalism: "Tissue cultures are obtained by dropping still living babies into meat grinders and homogenizing them, according to the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine."

Now, though, even a more horrid nightmare is taking place: the Chinese are now actually eating preborn children.

The newswires out of Hong Kong released the information that Chinese doctors are eating aborted babies and selling the children as health food. The Eastern Express reports on a doctor they interviewed who stated that the babies are "even better than placentas" referring to the nutritional value.

From the Kyodo News Service, Japan Economic Newswire, dateline Hong Kong, April 12, 1995, we quote :

"They can make your skin smoother, your body stronger and are good for the kidneys," said the female doctor from the southern Chinese city 's Sin Hua Clinic.

A female doctor at the city's Luo Eu Clinic, who has carried out hundreds of abortions, reportedly claimed to have eaten 100 fetuses in the past six months. She was quoted as saying the best were firstborn males from young women.

" 'I wash them with clear water until they look transparent white and then stew them. Making soup is best.' she was quoted as saying, adding, 'They are wasted if we don't eat them.' "

In The Daily Telegraph, Bejing, April 13, 1995, a story by Yojana Sharma and Graham Hutchings repeated the facts surrounding the cannibalism taking place. The sale of the babies for nutrional value was not overlooked.

"A woman doctor, referred to only as Wang, from the Sin Hua Clinic, Shenzhen, was quoted as saying, 'The fetuses were even better than placentae' in nutritional value. 'They make your skin smoother, your body stronger and are good for the kidneys' she said. Dr. Warren Lee, president of the Hong Kong Nutrition Association, said: 'Eating fetuses is a traditional Chinese medicine deeply founded in folklore.' "

As hard as it must be to read the reports coming out of China, it has been much harder for me to relate them to you. As I read these reports on my desk, I remember the words so often said to me by non-active pro-lifers: "It can't get any worse!" Well, it is worse.

The attack against the preborn child has reached nightmarish proportions. Yet, still, people say they just can't come to the abortion mills to pray to end this holocaust. I have often thought in the past several weeks what God will do to these Chinese cannibalists.

Then I think about what God will do to the United States. He has given us so much and we in turn do so little to stop this holocaust.

"Father, forgive them for they know not what they do" will be the prayer for the Chinese. Unfortunately, for the Americans, we do know and we choose to do nothing. God help us all.

LOVELESS LOVING

Unbelievably, Carol Loving described the murder of her son, Nick Loving, 27-year-old Phoenix man, as peaceful and wonderful. She participated in this action which is officially, rightly, classified as a homicide. She took her son from Phoenix, Arizona to the infamous Dr. Kevorkian. No tears, no grief, just lighthearted chatter about the last hours of her son's life. She said "He loved a challenge but there was none left. He was bedridden and bored. There was no challenge." Even in the week after the homicide ruling was announced, she claimed she was happy about the events around the death of her son.

She was a guest on a Phoenix, Arizona radio station: KTAR, 620 AM. When the radio host, Pat McMahan, asked her if he had tried to take his own life before she quipped, "Oh, yes." and light-heartily described how he had tried to take his own life before by using a telephone cord.

When asked what she thought of Doctor Death, she commented "Thank God for Dr. Kevorkian. He is The Good Doctor. He is a marvelous man."

Carol Loving disclosed through her own words that her son was not in critical condition because she stated that he "had to lie down because his back was sore after the plane trip."

According to The Arizona Republic May 14, 1995 article, How Nick Loving Came to Choose Death, Nick is reported as saying, "When they told me it was ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), I didn't know what they were taking about. When they told me it was Lou Gehrig's disease, I knew it was over." The article continued to quote this young man, "I refused to use a wheelchair. I know it sounds stupid, but I always had a lot of pride."

According to his mother, Carol Loving, Nick said that when he was ready, he asked her, "Aren't you going to hold my hand?" She said he then put on his ear phones so he could listen to Pink Floyd" as he inhaled the deadly carbon-monoxide fumes.

Pat McMahan, who describes himself as a Catholic, did not once use the words 'kill' or ' murder.' in the interview. Michigan has called it a homicide. All the phone callers supported the murder of Loving. We remind you that all calls are screened, so obviously Pat McMahan was aware that the calls selected were biased. On another station, KFYI, 920 AM. talk-show host Berry Young brought up the question - has anyone checked to see if Carol Loving had any financial gain?

How have we gotten to the point that mothers can arrange the murder of their children and have it called love? It is sad to say, but Carol Loving is no loving mother! - Katherine Sabelko

MOST IMPORTANT - INFORMATION ON PRAYER TIMES AT ABORTUARIES

This issue presented you sad news about the horror of abortion. We hope that by reading the Newsgram, you will realize that abortion is a major issue in our society that, as Christians, we must fight - through prayer and our peaceful presence at the abortion mills.

Though it might feel uncomfortable to go to an abortion mill to pray, you have to know these facts. God honors those who go to our modern-day Calvary. We follow the example of Our Blessed Mother who stood by the cross of Our Savior. By your prayerful presence at an abortion mill, fewer abortions will take place that morning.

The question must be asked - just how important is the life of one child? Every day we hear the sirens of the emergency vehicles as they race to a crisis situation in our community. The next time you hear those sirens, remember the silent screams of those precious children who are dying with no one to stand, praying and prayerfully protesting their murder.

Please take time to check the locations and times of the rosaries at the abortion mills. One is close to you. We need you to help us pray at the mill. The babies need you. Our Lord needs you there. Are we not His disciples to be where He would have been?

WHAT THE POPE HAS SAID

Several key declarations of Evangelium Vitae (Gospel of Life) have been well publicized. Some points need to be repeated. We quote from The St. Cloud Visitor, 4/13/95, Theologians Evaluate Encyclical's Treatment of Birth Control:

"In the encyclical Pope John Paul approached the issue [contraception and natural family planning] by defending the church against the claim that it actually promotes abortion because contraception 'is the most effective remedy against abortion' but the church 'obstinately continues to teach the moral unlawfulness of contraception.'

'When looked at carefully, this objection is clearly unfounded,' the pope replied.

'It may be that many people use contraception with a view to excluding the subsequent tempation of abortion,' he continued. 'But the negative values inherent in the 'contraceptiive mentality' -- which is very different from responsible parenthood lived in respect for the full truth of the conjugal act -- are such that they in fact strengthen this temptation when an unwanted life is conceived. Indeed, the pro-abortion culture is especially strong precisely where the church's teachings on contraception is rejected.'

The encyclial went on to say that, in moral terms, contraception and abortion are 'specifically different evils... the former is opposed to the virtue of chastity in marriage; the latter is opposed to the virtue of justice and directly violates the devine commandment "You shall not kill." - K.S.

A LETTER FROM A DOCTOR

The following letter was received by the Sun Times in Chicago.

Dear Sirs,

Recently at the hospital where I am a physician, I received an unusual request: a fourteen year old girl, 1.5 weeks short of being five months pregnant, had changed her mind about having an abortion. Instead of keeping her third and final appointment at the nearby Albany abortion clinic, she asked if I could remove the laminaria which had been inserted at her previous clinic appointments.

From a telephone conversation with an employee of the Albany clinic, I soon learned that the operative procedure at the clinic had been performed by a person with neither a medical degree nor a medical license. Moveover, from the young girl herself, I learned that at the clinic she had been given tetracycline, an antibiotic that is contraindicated in pregnancy because of its harmful effect on the baby's tooth enamel. This medication had been prescribed even though a woman has a legal right to change her mind about an abortion up until the last moment.

The purpose of the laminaria insertion at the clinic was to prepare the fourteen year old girl for a 'dilation and extraction' abortion (NOTE: this is what the media and the politicians called a 'partial abortion') in which the pre-term infant is delivered body first, still alive, then killed while the head is still in the womb by thrusting an instrument into the base of the infant's skull. Yes, this is legal in the State of Illinois. Roe vs Wade permits mid and late term abortions as long as the viable infant is killed before its head is delivered. During the procedure, the pre-term infant displays symtoms of pain reported in July 9, '94 issue of the British medical journal, "Lancet". [see enclosure last paragraph.]

Although no parental consent had been required for this fourteen year old to initiate the risky mid term abortion, never-the-less, ironically her parents had to accompany her to the hospital where I work to give their consent to the removal of the laminaria from their daughter. Neither the medical facility which originally referred th fourteen year old to the Albany clinic, nor the Albany clinic itself, had informed the parents that their daughter was pregnant or that a mid-term abortion was being planned. The abortion was to have been paid for with an 'abortion fund' coming apparently from Planned Parenthood donations. The parents, both working people, thanked me repeatedly for agreeing to undo the abortionist's preliminary operative work.

The attempt to abort this young girl at the Albany clinic without her parents' knowledge or consent, although legal, violates all medico-ethical standards of full disclosure and informed consent. Can a panicky fourteen year old under intense emotional duress be mentally capable of weighing the serious immediate and long term risks of an abortion? Obviously not. Under the best of circumstances fourteen year olds tend to give the immediate present undue weight. Will a fourteen year old, overwhelmed by her present predicament, sufficiently weight the impact of an abortion on her chance of getting breast cancer before the age of 45? According to the recent National Institute of Cancer Study, with an abortion, her chance will be 50 percent if she has no family history of breast cancer but 100 percent if she does have such a history. Will a fourteen year old even know her family medical history? So young a girl in so stressful a situation and perhaps ignorant of her family medical history, can in no way be said to have given true consent. Who made the decision for her then? The abortionist, a person who stands to make a monetary profit from the decision. And the staff member of the referring medical facility; a person who perhaps receive solicitations from the abortionist, and possibly gifts in return for referrals.

At the Albany clinic this pregnant fourteen year old was furthermore offered no concrete alternative to the abortion, although such an alternative was readily available as she discovered when she later went to nearby St Mary of Nazareth Hospital. This hospital has a program which offers material assistance and donated physician time to expectant mothers in the situation this young girl was in. It would have been easy enough for the Albany clinic personnel to have mentioned the availability of this program a few blocks away. But they did not, and had it not been for a pro-life sidewalk counselor, this young girl would never have learned that such a program was so readily available to her.

How has it come about in the city of Chicago and the State of Illinois that distressed young girls are allowed to be exploited by abortion entrepreneurs who flaunt standard medico-legal ethics regarding full disclosure and informed consent and who preform risky medical procedures without a medical license? And why is the current absence of inspection of abortion clinics by the Chicago Health Department and the current laxity of regulation of abortion clinics by the State of Illinois considered a benefit to women and their babies? Obviously it is a benefit chiefly to the abortion entrepreneurs, who, grossing three times as much as an obstetrician, are the better enabled to line their pockets under the cloak of 'privacy.'

What current goes on in Chicago's abortion mills is unconsiderable. The parents of a girl under 18 are much more likely to know their family history than she is. I therefore suggest that prompt action be taken at the highest levels not only to enforce existing laws requiring a medical license to perform operative procedures, but also to enact laws requiring 1) parental notification in the case of minors seeking abortion, and 2) higher standards of full disclosure to the mother regarding risks both to herself and the baby.

P.S. January 10, 1995

Since the events described in this letter took place, the young girl who was my patient has delivered her baby. He was born 9.5 weeks early weighing only three pounds, a clinical sign that the young mother's cervix had been damaged by the laminaria insertion. As of the date I write, the infant is still hospitalized.

Once a woman's cervix has been damaged, any future children she may conceive will be at risk of neurological impairment resulting from premature birth. Higher rates of neurologically impaired infants are already showing up among populations which have higher rates of abortion. This indicates that a substantial number of women who undergo laminaria insertion sustain cervical damage, although they will not learn of the damage until later, perhaps many years later, when they attempt to carry a child to term. All persons in a position of public authority must therefore ask themselves if it is a wise social policy for the US to permit medically - contraindicated surgery which eventually may result in the births of substantial numbers of neurologically handicapped infants.
