LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Thank you for your wonderful newsletter. May Our Blessed Mother keep your strength for this much needed work. Our Rosary in Chandler is going well but not too many new faces; just our regulars. May Our Lord help us at this site.

Susan Marquez
Chandler, AZ

(Ed. Note: The site referred to in the above letter is at 610 S. Alma School Rd. We need more prayer warriors there at 5:30 p.m. every second and fourth Tuesday.)

This letter is in response to the "Perspectives" article of the April 6, 1995 issue of The Catholic Sun, by Mr. George Weigel.

The title was "Self-Worship Isn't Compatible With Christianity." And it was very hard to accept the stark truth of the subject matter that Mr. Weigel presented. If what he says is true, almost all of us have been brainwashed by years of indoctrination in regard to the desirability of self-esteem and self-love.

Mr. Weigel states that nothing could be further from gospel values than the focus on self-esteem and self-love. The reason is that they are in the opposite direction from the Christian values of self-giving, sacrificial love, and self-less love.

And it's true that these are the primary virtues that hold marriage, family, community, country and even our world together in peace. Is it possible that all five are failing at a scaring rate because we are now focusing in the anti-Christian direction of self-importance?

When America was founded the priority was : God--> Country-->Family--> Self. And we became the greatest country the world has ever seen with SELF being the lowest priority. Then why should we reverse the order to: Self--> Family--> Country--> God? This is what the self-theory enthusiasts are suggesting when they push self-esteem first.

And it is also true that Jesus just showed us again during Holy Week that obedience to God and self-less love are the only important things to focus on. Jesus' words, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His justice (for all), and all other things shall be given to you." (Matt. 6:33), immediately comes to our minds.

It's really as simple as this: self-focus leads to pride and arrogance and away from God, gradually becoming self-worship. Focus on God and others leads toward God and toward others and away from self-esteem.

Jesus will take excellent care of you; He gave you His word. This is the gospel truth!!

So how did this psychological seduction of self-esteem get started? How did we get taken in by such an anti-Christian philosophy of life?

Space is limited here in this fine diocesan paper. For those who would sincerely like to know, we can recommend three good Christian authors to read:

1. The Danger of Self-Love by Paul
Brownback. Moody Press
2. Self-Esteem, A Biblical Perspective by Jay E. Adams.

3. Psychological Seduction by
Wm Kirkpatrick, Boston College

John and Kathy Ney,
Sun City, AZ

Since John Ney's letter was edited in The Catholic Sun, we wanted to publish the complete letter here.

I have enclosed an article from the Phoenix Gazette, 5/11/95. It appears that Gloria Feldt [Planned Parenthood] is trying to stir up things. I thought you'd be interested in the Flagstaff mill. It appears the law up there doesn't know about the events she is talking about.

There was also a statement in the news article from Jack McLamb. You may already know this but he is a former Phoenix police officer (the most decorated one in Phoenix history) who is a leader of law enforcement groups and groups that relate to the militia. He was the one who, in the Randy Weaver shootout, went up to Weaver's house and brought him down to the FBI/BATF. My point is that he is right in his statement that when his type of groups get together, they talk about gun control, Bill of Rights, Second Amendment etc. They are not into pro-life/abortion issues. Of course there are pro-life people within these groups but abortion/pro-life is not the issue. Again, Feldt is grasping at anything.

Also heard on the morning news (5/12/95), while driving to work that Joe Feldman from Planned Parenthood talking about 'anti-abortion' protestors stirring up the PP's trash containers and leaving trash around the premises.

Please pass on the plea - we need more people out at the abortion mills - especially at Finkle's abortion mill on 17th street and Indian School on Saturday mornings!

A CHILD'S HAVEN

By Dave Chesterton - Copyright 1995
Used with permission

The children died in their haven.
Or so the paper said.
They were gone in an act of great violence.
So many children are dead.
The bomb was set off by the haters,
and ended the lives that would be.
The same hate is still killing babies,
That's how it seems to me.

The leaders said: "It was a cruel act,
that killed all those children that day."
The same leaders say it is all right
to kill a baby for pay.
The arguments keep on a-going
about what this new life could be.
But what I know is a true fact:
that a 'fetus' was once you and me.

The story goes on to this same day.
The story most don't want to hear:
That humans begin at conception,
and in nine months the baby is here.
We argue and bicker about it
while the baby just wants to be born.
The mothers and daughters are split up,
the friends and families are torn.

And so most people just sit back.
And some churches feel it's all right
to take the life of a baby
who's precious in God's sight.
There should be no doubt about it:
that all life comes from above.
A baby's God's highest creation
and we must treat it with love.

IN THE NEWS

Texas passed a law to protect vegetables from slander. If it sounds crazy, we remind you that Arizona has already passed a anti-hate bill to protect vegetables. Planned Parenthoods lies when it says words can kill (people) but now we have to worry about what we say about broccoli

*******

The Phoenix Gazette. 5/9/95 article "Fighting For the Payoff, Abortion Foes want action soon by GOP lawmakers" reminds the community that the '94 elections swept in dedicated Americans who vowed to address the abortion issue and work on the bills to end and/or limit abortions in this country. Now, the Christian Coalition's Contract With the American Family will help many of these representatives keep their promise.

*******

As a public policy advocate for Planned Parenthood, Foster is on the National Leadership Committee To Keep Abortion safe and legal, which (among other goals) supports abortion on demand for all nine months without restrictions." The New American, America's Abortionist General, by William Hoar, 3/6/95

*******

The preborn child is recognized nationally as a small child, whose life was taken from him in the Oklahoma City bombing. Carrie Lenz had just found out, via ultasound, that she was carrying a son in her womb. Carrie and Michael named their preborn child the night before she and her child died in the bombing.

*******

Newsweek, 5/8/95, reported that little preborn Michael Lenz III was listed alongside his mother in the official count of the dead.

SHORT EXPLANATIONS

Some names on a boycott list will be a surprise to you. Taylor Medical, Inc. is a medical supply company that has contracts with Planned Parenthood. This company is headquartered in Texas but conducts business in several states including Arizona. All medical clinics, doctors and dentists should make sure their business is not using Taylor Medical.

****************

Some pro-lifers are torn by loyalty to a familiar name. Basha stores in Arizona is such an example. Eddie Basha clearly supports abortion, as expressed throughout his failed governoral race. Since Basha Food stores is the main source of income for the Basha family, we know that the profits from the company enable the family to donate directly to Planned Parenthood. It might be wonderful to want to feed the poor, but this is restrictive charity. The true charity would be to help women in crisis pregnancies as well as families who have born children. We can pray for the Basha family, but to financially support Basha Foods and A.J. Foods is actually feeding the death machine. The offer for computers in classrooms by Basha can also work on the loyalty of the pro-lifer for the school children. What you must ask yourself is, is it better to have computers in the classroom or more children allowed to live so they can use computers! Since there are so many other food stores in the area, there is no reason for any pro-lifer to have to shop there.

****************

Phelps Dodge, headquartered in Phoenix has a board of Directors. Writing letters to that board is a very effective way to have them reconsider their opinion. When a parent company, such as Grand Metropolitan, owns many subsidiaries, it is possible that some of the subsidiaries do not give to the abortion industry. For instance, Totino Pizza should not be supported because it is owned by Grand Metropolitan. The profits from Totino that the company receives will add to the amount of grants given to the abortion providers. Continue to write them letters about your concerns, but pro-lifers must stand firm and not buy from any company connected to abortion.

****************

"Burger King Corporation has not taken - and will not take - a position [on abortion]." was the statement by Mr. Michael Evans, manager of Public Relations in a letter published by Life Decisions. The man conveniently neglected to mention in the letter that his parent company was a major supporter of Planned Parenthood. All you can do is let them know how much business they are losing, and then order the pizza from Domino's.

****************

We have printed the list of companies currently on the general pro-life boycott list. As you will see, some are statewide while others are national. Some companies are subsidiaries of a parent company. Tandy is a good example. Among the current holdings Tandy has are: Radio Shack, VideoConcepts, Appliance Supercenters, McDuff Electronics, The Edge in Electronics, Computer City, Incredible Universe, and Grupo Gigante.

****************

K-Mart is on the list because of the connection between abortion and pornography. (Check update in October, 1995 Newsgram) For years they have refused to remove pornographic material from their Waldon bookstores.

****************

AT&T is not supporting Planned Parenthood anymore, but they make an effort to "celebrate homosexuality" by having special recognition several weeks each year for alternative lifestyles.

****************

Taco Bell has been removed from the list but with one qualification. Taco Bell is owned by Pepsico. Pepsico employees have the option of donating to the charities of their choice, with the parent company matching the employee's donation to the specified charity. Since ten dollars was listed for Planned Parenthood, it was automatically listed on the boycott list. Since the dollars amount was so small, they are not on the boycott list. Perhaps they should be, though. Once the donation door is open, just where does a pro-life group decide the amount is tolerable or too much? Perhaps people should write these companies to state that pro-abortions groups should not be honored by the company. The employees can always give to the death machine on their own. - Katherine Sabelko

BITS AND PIECES

The news was bad enough when it was announced that the Clinton administration had rejected the pleas from 13 Chinese women seeking asylum in this country. These Chinese women were carrying precious babies in their wombs and were desperately trying to save their children from being ripped from their wombs. A woman's right to choose must only apply to U.S. citizens.

Pharmacists For Life presented a Louisiana pharmacist, Daniel Scholl R. Ph. its annual award of Merit. Each year a pharmacist is chosen "who has, in an eminent manner, defended and advanced the principles to defending innocent life, including the preborn, the elderly and the handicapped during the past year." You can contact Pharmacists for Life International at Box 1281, Powell, Ohio 43065-1281.

"From Danger to Dignity: The Fight For Safe Abortion is a documentary that was presented by Planned Parenthood Federation and The Center for Reproductive Law and Policy. Bella Abzug, Polly Bergen, Rabbi Balfour Brickner, Betty Friedan, Anna Quindlen, Gloria Stienman and Sarah Weddington were among the activists present. Be aware that among the groups funding the film were Ford Foundation, Gerbode Foundation, Threshold Foundation, Rosenthal Foundation.

"Six clinics have closed as a result of our lawsuits." said Vicki Conroy, concerning the pro-life effort she and her husband have mounted. They run a group called "Legal Action for Women" in Florida and aid women maimed by the abortionists.

****************

"The fact that abortion is a billion-dollar industry in the U.S. alone (excluding the sale of fetal body parts for research and use in cosmetics as "collagen") has been reported in Fortune magazine. The bodies of aborted babies are now sold for up to $5,500 per pound in the United States. Sales of hysterectomy-aborted babies removed alive (up to nine months old) fetch up to one million dollars annually." The New American, Experimenting on the Unborn, May 1, 1995.

"I want to hear from the Governor," Gloria Feldt, Planned Parenthood puppet (PPP), demanded as she called a news conference to announce Planned Parenthood's desperate attempt to tie pro-life activists in with the militia movement. Several radio talk shows vocalized that this was a weak attempt to try to raise money for their killing machine. - K.S.

ABOUT THE NEWSGRAM

Children of the Rosary publishes 16 issues a year. The Newsletter is published quarterly and sent to those people on our mailing list. There is no cost for the quarterly Newsletter but donations are always needed and greatly appreciated.

As a way of thanking our contributors, we send out a monthly publication, called the Newsgram. Originally, the word "gram" identified it as a very short update of pro-life news. As the years have gone by, it has developed into a full 8-12 page issue.

If you are wondering how you can receive the monthly Newsgram, we will have to say you can't subscribe to it. The only way you can receive the Newsgram each month is with your donation to CoR.

You see, for each five dollars you donate to the cause to fight abortion, you will receive a Newsgram. So, if you send in twenty dollars for our totally voluntary, nonprofit group, you will receive a Newsgram for four months - one month for each five dollars you send.

It is rather difficult to borrow a copy of a Newsgram. Most people who receive it just don't want their only copy out of their hands. The best way to ensure you get the last-minute pro-life news, locally and nationally, is to give from your heart - to save another heart - the heart of a small baby who will be saved through the work of us all.

God bless all of you who donate - without your generosity, this publication could not be printed and distributed. If you would like to send us a donation, mail your tax deductable contribution to Children of the Rosary, P.O. Box 2021. Glendale, AZ, 85311-2021.
