The expected veto action of the partial-birth abortion ban bill by the ex-governor of Arkansas was expected by any sane individual. It is a known fact that the blood-thirsty pro-aborton lobbyists have Clinton in their pocket.
In the days following the Clinton veto, we have heard strong statements from Christian leaders denouncing the action, referring to the President of the United States as the Abortion President. And so he is and has been the pro-abortion, pro-gay leader of this country.
He has now drawn his sword of death, wielding it in front of Christians, daring us to respond...but there is little noise raising from the peasants. What is even worse is that there are few shouts from the peasants' leaders: the ministers, pastors and priests in local churches. This lack of response was noted on a Phoenix, Arizona radio talk-show program, on station KFYI, hosted by Barry Young, on May 1. The topic of the program was where are the pastors and ministers who should be speaking up against Clinton's actions?
Young clarified that the Roman Catholic Church position was clearly stated via the well-publicized letter from the Bishops and Cardinals to the President. Barry Young requested calls from listeners to report if their pastors, ministers and priests have specifically spoken out against this action. He asked if any ministers had mentioned abortion since the PBA ban bill was raised in the legislature.
Sad to say, there were no callers who could say their ministers or pastors made a stand against the PBA. What was very clear from the callers is that, though they stated their church leaders had not made any statements, they believed that it was not necessary. People defended the silence of their ministers, saying that, as people kept attending Church, they would automatically understand that abortion was wrong. It sounded like we become strong Christians through osmosis.
We do not become strong Christians through osmosis but through living the Gospel, and that Gospel says we uphold the sacredness of life. Every minister, pastor and priest owes it to the preborn children to address the issue of abortion to their congregation in the strongest of terms. If they do not, we would have to ask, in whose pocket are they?

Bishop Thomas J. O'Brien has requested that all Catholic churches in the Catholic Diocese of Phoenix distribute pre-printed cards which urge the U.S. Congress to override the veto on the Partial Birth Abortion (PBA) ban bill that was vetoed by Mr. Clinton.
Each pastor was requested by Bishop O'Brien to distribute these cards to every parishioner so that each family could send their Senator and Representatives a plea to overide this veto.
In addition to the directives of the Bishop, pro-lifers in each parish contacted their pastor to act in support of this move and offered any assistance needed. Financial support was available if any parish felt it could not afford the purchase of the cards.
Children of the Rosary has also ordered 5,000 cards, the cost of which is minimul - $10 for 1,000 - and they are available to whomever requests them in bulk amounts.
This is a necessary step to notify political leaders of the responsiblity they have to follow the U.S. Constitution and the basic precept that all life is sacred.
Hopefully other churches, groups and organizations will follow this example. Now is the time for each of us to contact our elected officials. V

Leachman comes back on and tells viewers that the number of tigers shot and killed is very high ... as a matter of fact, 95,000 tigers have been killed since 1900 and there might be as few as 5,000 left.
The bottom line is that you can donate to save the life of a tiger (they take Master Charge). "You can't save those which have already been slaughtered, but if you act now, you can help see that no more are killed."
Several interesting things. First of all, why doesn't a star get interested in the number of babies killed - 4400 pre-born babies daily in the United States? Secondly, why is it that 95,000 tigers killed in 96 years is considered 'a staggering number' but 1.6 MILLION babies killed YEARLY in the United States is not even important enough to mention?
Finally, though we are asked to soft-soap the facts about abortion so as to not annoy listeners, I notice the commercial about the tigers did not hesitate to say it like it was - using the words "Killing" and "slaughter" to describe the plight of the animals in question.
I am amazed at the fact that Leachman thinks we will be upset by a tiger being shot... a clean and quick death ... and somehow we SHOULD NOT BE upset by the thought of a tiny human baby being dismembered, in a messy, ugly killing.
Evidently showing an animal being shot is OK: showing a human being's bloody dismemberment is not OK.
The effectiveness of this commercial to save the tiger relied on NOT soft-soaping the facts. It relied on showing, bluntly, the reality of a tiger being shot by a poacher.
In the same way, I can't help thinking that some of our most effective campaigns in the pro-life movement have happened when the truth was put bluntly. When people were forced to look at the reality of abortion, they quickly changed their minds about the wisdom of that choice.
For example, the partial-birth abortion bill came out because some courageous pro-lifers insisted on showing large pictures of what this abortion really looked like, on the Congressional floor. They were very much criticized for this move, not only by the pro-death Clinton administration, but also by some of their fellow pro-lifers. And yet, when congressmen actually looked at the horrible reality, the bill naturally followed and was passed.
I say 'Victory' on this because, even though President Clinton vetoed the bill, it has awakened the clergy of many churches and caused them to begin to stand up for life. It has made a lot of Americans aware of just HOW pro-death Clinton is and how little he cares about a human baby, despite his hypocritical words. It well may get Clinton defeated in the election. And the publicity the partial birth abortion got is, I feel, at least in part, responsible for pushing through parental consent laws in 28 states.
Historically, soft-soaping may have gotten a few individuals elected to office and it may have made many people comfortable in their choice to not speak about an unpopular truth, but it has never achieved any real reform. Only telling the full truth seems to effect reform. But that takes guts - something many folks seem to need to develop.
I hope that pro-lifers take some pointers from the 'Save the Tiger' group and that they stand up at least as strongly to save human beings.
The pot-luck sponsored by Coalition For Life, (CFL), May 11, was a success in several aspects. Though the turnout was low, the organizations represented and the leaders who attended promised a strong start to the mission of the CFL.
One of the most promising projects that CFL has was introduced at the Potluck. All pro-lifers are being asked to become proud sponsors of the 1997 Rally/March For Life. Please refer to one of the inserts in this Newsgram. Each sign-up sheet has space to list seven sponsors. Hopefully you will be sending these back filled. Feel free to make exact copies of the sponsor sign-up sheets and keep sending in the completed sheets with the checks attached.
Your relatives, family, co-workers, church and parish friends, etc., should all be on the list. Though many people believe they can not donate much time to the pro-life movement, they can all take a few minutes out to sign up as a sponsor and write a check out.
Hand it to your favorite company to sign up, and to your neighbors. Your deacons, priests and ministers should all want to sign as individuals as well as the church.
Take sign-up sheets to every meeting you attend and pass them around.
Every parish can provide a sign-up table at different functions - picnics, festivals, for example. Every group will receive $10 for every hundred sponsors it signs up. A church or parish pro-life group could raise money in this fashion for their next project.
Raising needed funds for advertising, printing, mailings, etc. must be raised early so we have some idea of a budget. This is a very important project so please return this as soon as possible with as many sponsors as you can.
Effective with this issue, we are changing our publication schedule and, according to your donations to date, appropriately extending the number of months you will receive the monthly Newsgram and the quarterly Newsletter. You will note at the top line of this issue's label that we have credited you with any lengthened expiration date due you according to this new schedule and your donations received.
In the past, we have published 12 Newsgrams a year, as well as a Newsletter each quarter. This schedule resulted in our having to produce two publications in a single month four times a year. The added workload of producing that extra issue in the first month of each quarter frequently resulted in late deliveries.
Consequently, to remove the added workload caused by the extra issue quarterly, and simultaneously to improve the timeliness of each publication, this month we are cutting back our publishing schedule from 16 publications yearly to 12: one per month. There will be a Newsletter in the first month of each quarter and a monthly Newsgram in the other remaining eight months of the year.
Thus, whereas in the past you have received 16 publications annually for $60 in donations, now you will receive 12 publications for $40 in donations. If you do the equation on that, your math tells you that you are getting a bargain. (If 16 of something cost $60, then 12 should be $45, not $40!)
Stated another way, for every $5 you donate in the future, you will receive a Newsgram; for $10, two Newsgrams and the four quarterly Newsletters; and, for a $40 donation, eight Newsgrams plus the four quarterly Newsletters in the space of a year!
Everyone wins: you get a better bargain; we get our workload shaved back to normal; and we all enjoy better timeliness of every issue throughout the year!
Every church and parish should be setting aside some time each month to pray to end abortion. We will be happy to publish every prayer time, event, and rosary that is scheduled to spead the word for you.
The second Monday of each month, St. Helen's parish has a Life Rosary at 7 p.m.. St. Helen's Church is located at 55th Avenue and Cholla. Everyone is encouraged to attend the Rosary evening.
I wanted to thank you for the information you send out to us. My daughter has taken the issues back to college to share with her dorm pals!
After more than a year of receiving your newsletter, my family finally ventured out to join others to pray in front of an abortuary. I hate to say I was a bit nervous not knowing what to expect.
Our time there on the sidewalk praying was the most rewarding experience I've had in a long time! I had no idea how fulfilling it was to pray for those tiny babies.
I was so aware that these children had only minutes more to live - I prayed harder than I can ever remember doing. There was one couple who came out and took some papers from one of the counsellors. I hope the couple will chose to keep their baby.
Thank you again....praying in front of Planned Parenthood was a true eye-opener for us.

I'm real proud of the pro-lifers here! They outnumbered the pro-aborts and completely shot down the Planned Parenthood propaganda machine when Gloria Feldt came here to speak at a Humanist meeting in Prescott this week.
This press release and letter to the editor are copies of the ones that I sent to Jim Sedlack, Stop P.P. Inc.

There's A Dragon Here
Editor:
There's a dragon here and it's called Plannned Parenthood (alias PP). Don't let them seize our children.
First PP advertised that they would do physicals for your sports and then it was flu shots, but what's their real agenda? Watch out! Beware of PP! Let me explain.
Many of us have seen the TV movie, Holocaust. In that film, there was a railroad station scene where people were ordered to get on to the trains for the "family camps." We all realize now that these were the death camps of Auschwitz, Dachau, etc.
Well, the death camp provider in our community now is called PP. PP will send your children and grandchildren to their abortion sub-camps. Here PP doctors will gladly take your grand- child's life and scar your daughter forever. As one bumper sticker seen locally says it, "Abortion: One dead, One wounded."
PP is the largest abortion provider in the world. Why would we ever want to send our children to an organization so linked to death and immorality.
Please don't let your children go to PP! It's bad for their bodies, their minds and for their souls.
John Pelikan, R.N.
This letter was printed in the Prescott Free Press in April:
Let's Face the Truth: Abortion Hurts Women
Editor:
It seems to me that any organization (for example PP) which helps a woman to kill her unborn baby by abortion is not doing society nor that woman a favor.
Why doesn't PP help more women to have their babies?
According to their own 1991 statistics, nationally, PP helped only 7,000 women with prenatal care, which at the same time was directly responsible for taking the lives of 129,000 boys and girls by abortion.
This just doesn't make sense! When are we going to take a stand against this injustice to women and their unborn babies?
Let's face the truth: Abortion hurts women in lots of ways and needs to be stopped.
John Pelican, R.N.
Editor's Note: We thank John for forwarding these letters to us.
Mr. Jordan sent in the following letter with a copy of the Letters To the Editor, Phoenix Gazette.
"The Gazette's 4/26 editorial attacked Kevorkian for his hypocrisy in failing to live up to the Hippocratic Oath. The poor creatures omitted the second clause in that sentence from the oath, thereby making a response irresistible.
Regards...
THE LETTER:
"What About Abortion?
"I will give no deadly medicine to anyone if asked nor suggest any such counsel." I really liked the way The Gazette socked it to Dr. Jack Kevorkian in that April 26 editorial quoting the Hippocratic Oath. Hard-hitting moral and logical consistency, I always say.
There is only one problem: You omitted the ellipsis points. The rest of that sentence reads, "...and especially I will not aid a woman to procure abortion." Now you're ready for your editorial on Dr. Brian Finkel and company.
Joe Jordan"
The question Children of the Rosary present to each of you is: Is your doctor faithful to the Hippocratic Oath?
Father Joe Blonski, who has been a faithful supporter to Children of the Rosary, has a very practical solution for clarifying our doctors' stance on the sacredness of life and the clear statements in the Hippocratic Oath.
You will find a copy of the revised Hippocratic Oath in the inserts we are mailing with this Newsgram. This is the revised Hippocratic Oath that all doctors are being asked to honor. You will also find other information in the insert. We ask you to take the time to read all the information we have sent you on this subject!
Please ask your doctor to review it and sign as a supporter of this Oath.
